NASHVILLE, TENN. (WSMV) - A deadly shooting investigation is underway at a South Nashville home early Wednesday morning.

Metro Police tell us the homeowner, a 72-year-old man, returned home to find an intruder inside the residence. The homeowner then reportedly shot the intruder. 

The intruder, identified as 27-year-old Taylor Lowery, died from his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police responded to the call for a shooting just after 5:30 a.m. at the residence on Radnor Street south of Thompson Lane in South Nashville. 

The homeowner told police he returned home from eating breakfast and found the screen from his kitchen window on the ground. Police say he drew a pistol and began checking rooms in the house.

According to a news release from Metro Police, the homeowner reportedly encountered Lowery in the bathroom and shot him after Lowery "lunged at him grabbing for the gun."
