Murfreesboro police said that the suspect in a shooting last week has been arrested.
Police said Antonio Starnes, 40, was arrested on Tuesday after he crashed trying to evade police.
Starnes is accused of shooting Byrus M. Hughes on South University Street on Thursday.
Detectives spotted Starnes just after noon driving on South Hancock Street with an unidentified passenger and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. While attempting to turn onto East Main Street, Starnes crashed into another vehicle traveling east on East Main Street.
Police found Starnes had a recent gunshot wound. The source of the gunshot wound is under investigation. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.
The passenger in the car was taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash because he wasn’t wearing his seat belt.
The two passengers in the vehicle struck by Starnes’ car were also taken to St. Thomas Rutherford for treatment.
Starnes will be booked into the Rutherford County Detention Center on charges of attempted first degree murder and evading arrest upon his return from Vanderbilt. Additional charges may pending the outcome of the crash investigation.
