Macy's, Inc. announced Wednesday that it plans to close its store at the Hickory Hollow Mall in Antioch.
The company did not give a specific date when the department store would be closing, but it says it wants to complete the move in early spring 2012.
The Hickory Hollow location opened in 1979 and employs 77 people.
The company says it will run final clearance sales at the location for approximately 10 weeks as it closes down.
The Antioch location is one of five Macy's stores closing nation-wide in a move the company says will "prune under-performing locations."
Employees who are laid off will be offered severance benefits and the opportunity to transfer to other stores, the company said.
Macy's is the second department store and third Metro-area store to
announce plans to close in the past two weeks. Last week, Sears
announced its Hickory Hollow location and the Kmart in Hendersonville
will also close due to slow sales.
