"Today Show" host Hoda Kotb came to Nashville on Wednesday to highlight Blake Shelton and his new honky tonk on Broadway.
During an interview with News4, Kotb shared her love of Nashville and some of the challenges she experiences in her new role as co-anchor with Savannah Guthrie.
“Every time someone comes here, ‘You got to visit Nashville.' I’m like, I know, right.’ You have a thing, and it’s amazing.”
Kotb doesn’t hold back when it comes to her passion for Music City.
“Nashville is in a class all by itself. There are a million cities on planet Earth, and then there’s Nashville,” Kotb said. “It is unique in its feel, its music, the vibe and the people, all of it.
“It’s not even, it’s about all of it, like the food is delicious, the music is incredible, like the hugs make you feel good, the weather is amazing. All of that stuff somehow rolled together. You can’t believe you get all that here.”
She said Nashville feels like home, away from her real home in New York, and she was thrilled to co-host the "Today Show" with Shelton in his new restaurant and bar on Wednesday morning.
Her new role as a main anchor alongside Guthrie does come with some challenges.
“Probably the biggest change is I have to do a lot more homework than I was used to, and just kind of being on top of everything,” she said.
There’s also the middle of the night alarm clock.
“It’s also just kind of waking up a little earlier, you know what I mean. It’s like, ‘Wait, did my alarm go off at 3:45? Like what?’ I mean, come on.”
Kotb also talked about the new love of her life, her daughter, and how she balances motherhood with her career.
She gushes with emotion when talking about little Haley Joy.
"I've cried, holding her and she looks at me and starts blowing kisses like she feels the love, and it's amazing," Kotb said.
Kotb has been busy this year, not only juggling her life as a new mom but also putting out a new book and taking on her new role at "Today."
"I think I just realized that Haley is my focus. Haley is the nucleus, everything else is electrons, circling around," Kotb said. "And I'll make sure the electrons are in order, but really my heart, my soul, the reason I wake up, what I think about when I go to sleep, all of it is Haley."
Kotb says that for the first time in her life, her priorities are in check.
"I don't think I've ever had it straight before now, and I don't think I knew why I was supposed to be on the planet Earth, until, I just didn't know. When you know your priorities, the workload works itself out," Kotb said. "I will work hard, but my life is about making sure her life is good and that's all I care about."
