A couple died in a crash after leaving a relative's funeral on Saturday.

It happened around 6 p.m. right after they pulled out of a church parking lot on Cato Road and Ashland City Highway in Nashville. The husband was driving when their 1968 Chevrolet Camaro hit a rock wall.

The couple, identified as 49-year-old Troy Jenkins and 38-year-old Cameo Jenkins, of Pegram, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

According to police, speed appeared to be the primary cause of the crash. There were signs of braking, but the car did not slow sufficiently.

Police also said the husband and wife were wearing seat belts; however, they were only lap belts due to the age of the Camaro.

*This story has been updated from an earlier version that said the couple attended their son's funeral. Police now say it was a relative.
