After three days of searching, rescue crews found the body of a missing kayaker along the Elk River in Giles County.
According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, 31-year-old Anthony Cooper was last seen putting his kayak in the river at an access area off Veto Road on Sunday morning. His kayak was later found floating upside down along the river.
After finding the kayak, several people in the area started searching for Cooper but were not able to find him.
Crews with TWRA, Giles County, Maury County, Lawrence County and Rutherford County all assisted with the search effort.
Officials said the river's strong current and cold water temperatures, along with areas of heavy debris, made their search more complicated.
According to the TWRA, crews were getting ready to call off the search Wednesday when they found Cooper's body around 7:30 p.m.
The TWRA has turned over the case to the sheriff's department. The medical examiner's office will be conducting an autopsy.
