Police say a bank robbery suspect has surrendered peacefully after barricading himself inside a motel room in Clarksville for several hours.

Officers surrounded the Motel 6 on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard just after 2:15 a.m. Friday. A tactical unit and negotiators also assisted with the situation.

The suspect was believed to have been armed and was reportedly alone in the room during the standoff.

Law enforcement was communicating with the suspect, who was inside the room on the second floor.

The motel rooms closest to the suspect were evacuated as a precaution.

According to police, the suspect robbed the Bank of America on Madison Street just after 2 p.m. Thursday. He reportedly handed the clerk a note demanding money. It's not clear how much money was stolen. Police said the suspect did not show the clerk a weapon during the robbery. No one was injured during the incident.
