NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man has been arrested and Murfreesboro police have identified the victim killed in a shooting over the weekend.

Police said 44-year-old Corey Lillard Sr., who’s a felon, is charged with first-degree murder, possession of suspected fentanyl and more in the shooting death of 23-year-old Davion Gates.

Gates was found in the driveway of a home on E. Vine Street near a carport with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Officers attempted to render aid while EMS responded to the scene. Gates later died at the hospital.

The shooting occurred on Saturday at about 9:30 a.m.

“The homicide is possibly related to a dispute between the parties,” police said.

Lillard Sr. is being held on a nearly $1 million bond. He’s set to appear in court on June 3.
