KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Former Tennessee football coach and director of athletics Phillip Fulmer says he’s thankful for his good health and family after a brief stay in the hospital last month.
Fulmer’s family announced he was at the University of Tennessee Medical Center on Aug. 24, saying he was having a medical procedure.
“He is alert and in good spirits and will remain at the hospital for a few days,” the family said at the time. “We are thankful for the outstanding care he’s receiving, and we also appreciate the prayers and concern of so many who have reached out. He is looking forward to cheering on the Vols as they kickoff another exciting season!”

“Sometimes we take too many things for granted,” Fulmer said. “I think I have a good perspective about family, my grandchildren and all those things. But I may not always appreciate good health and those things... It’s always special.”
Fulmer and his family did not give specifics on the August procedure.
