SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Springfield woman said she’s still in shock after watching a car crash into her neighbor’s front yard.

That neighbor said she’s surprised this type of crash doesn’t happen more often.

The car flipped over and destroyed the wood fencing just feet from the home’s front door on Highway 41 near Courtland Road.

“The car looked like it flipped three or four times before it landed on its side,” Amanda Adams said.

Adams lives two houses down from the crash. She said she ran outside around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after her phone rang.

“It was my boyfriend. He said there has been an accident up the road and I’m trying to help get the lady out,” Adams said.

Adams said emergency crews arrived minutes later.

Springfield Police said the car ran off the highway, over an embankment above a parked car and through the fence.

“He had helped pull the lady out because she was scared the car would catch fire,” Adams said. “It was literally sitting on that flagpole down there.”

While Adams watched as crews cleared the scene, she said her heart sank.

“We could have a car hit us in our home while we’re asleep,” Adams said.

It’s a fear she has had for more than 10 years as she’s watched the highway expand and speeds increase.

“Let me tell you, the accident on this highway, there have been many,” Adams said. “It’s a fear. I thought we were safe more so than others because of the embankment, but it’s still a scary thought.”

While police said the driver is expected to be OK, Adams hopes this crash pushes officials to take a closer look at the road.

“People don’t understand that highway over there is very unforgiving,” Adams said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Springfield Police Department. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash and no charges have been filed.
