NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A bill that was going to be considered by Metro Council to bring the Republican National Convention to Nashville in 2024 has been withdrawn.

The bill sponsored by Councilmember Robert Swope was going to be considered on the first reading Tuesday evening during the meeting.

Council Member Sharon Hurt told us Tuesday that the bill had been withdrawn and is no longer a consideration for Metro Council at this time.

If it had passed, the ordinance would approve an agreement between the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, the Nashville 2024 Host Committee, and the Republican National Committee for the 2024 Republican National Convention.

It is believed if the convention were to be held in Nashville, it would be at Bridgestone Arena.
