Is Pedro Garcia Leaving Or Staying?

It's the same song and second verse for Metro School Director Pedro Garcia.

He's either staying here or he's leaving. Take your pick.

Has he had enough of trying to straighten out Metro Schools and wants to move on?

This time his name has been thrown into the hat for a job in San Diego, Calif. But Garcia said he intends to serve out his Metro contract until 2010.

Three years ago he was passed over for a director's job in Miami.

Has Garcia done a good or bad job for Metro schools? I don't know.

How can you tell? Could anyone have done better?

I Know Garcia rolled into Nashville with a lot of grandiose ideas and a lot of strong support from the school board.

Whatever the overbearing and brash director wanted or wanted to change seemed to get full approval from the board members.

I do know Garcia quickly lost support from Metro teachers and their union.

Now, with new problems from the State, it appears he has also lost support from our morning newspaper.

Certainly all the problems in our school system are not his fault. Teachers can't make every student learn that doesn't have any interest in being educated.

I can tell you that Pedro is a different man than when he arrived in here.

It seems he's been taught a lesson in how not to treat both teachers and parents.

But one big question remains. Does Garcia know whether he's coming or going?
