So you complain about your job. Well, let me tell you about Craig Kennedy who has the nastiest, most disgusting and repulsive job in town.

Kennedy is a long-time Metro employee whose official title is equipment operator. But his duties have nothing to do with being an equipment operator.

That's because Kennedy is the man who travels the county picking up dead animals, road kills and more.

"He's a unique guy worth a million," says Public Works Director Billy Lynch.

It's hard to believe, but Craig Kennedy, called the Dead Animal Guy at work, loves his job.

"I don't mind doing it at all," he says. "Somebody has got to do it, and it’s what the Lord has got me doing right now."

A couple of weeks ago, he hauled off 12 dead deer the same day from the same location.

He also gets sent on close to a dozen calls every day to cart away dead and often mangled and smashed dogs, cats, possums and other deceased animals.

Strangely, he said, armadillos are coming to Nashville.

He had never seen an armadillo until recently when he had to scrape one up at a West End restaurant's parking lot where it had been run over by a car. He scooped up another one on Woodmont Boulevard.

His worst job, Kennedy said, was trying to haul off a 400 pound hog.

A 37-year Metro employee, the dead animal guy has been at this job for the past 12 years.

And what does his wife think about it?

"She doesn't like me to talk about what I do," the Dead Animal Guy says.

In case you were wondering, Kennedy is paid $36,000 a year.
