Rep. Rob Briley Faces Clouded Future

What should State Rep. Rob Briley do following his recent arrest? Should he remain in the State Legislature or resign as some people suggest?

Word On The Street (11/5/07)

The 41-year-old Nashville attorney led police on a wild 100 mph chase last month while in a drunken rage. He was arrested on multiple charges and made a fool of himself on the police car video camera.

Briley told the City Paper numerous excuses for his conduct. He's been under treatment for alcoholism, is involved in a divorce and there's also some dark, deep, secret, story about childhood abuse.

The drinking and memories of the so-called abuse when he was only 7 years old began four years ago, Briley claims. Since then he has won election to the legislature twice.

Were his campaign supporters told of these problems when he was running for office? Would they have voted for him if they had known what to expect?

But the good news is Briley claims he was never drank when he cast a legislative vote.

With all of these latest allegations, I wonder if Briley could even remember whether he was drunk or not at the time? I doubt all of the legislators could say they weren't drinking when they voted on state issues.

Briley now says he is feeling great.

That brief stay in rehab must have done wonders for his memory and his drinking.

How long will it last? Cross your fingers.

Regarding this story, Larry Brinton said Briley referred all comments to his attorney.
