Police arrested Robert Jason Burdick on Thursday in connection with the attacks, and officials said they believe Burdick is the man they labeled the “Wooded Rapist.”

The attacks usually occurred between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. and many of them were reported between the months of September and March.

Some people who knew him said that on one side, Burdick is a conscientious citizen with an affinity for law enforcement.

Police said his other side is a cold-blooded criminal who raped a pregnant woman.

Buford Tune said he remembers Burdick, who attended firearms training classes that Tune taught in 2005. Tune said that looking back now, Burdick played a good con game.

"The con that he was giving was this Mr. Nice Guy. The only thing that we can put together is when he was doing this Mr. Nice Guy act, that was just giving him more fuel to look for more victims," Tune said.

Burdick was a correctional officer at Riverbend Maximum Security Prison in Nashville in 2000. It’s during his time as an officer that Burdick was accused of propositioning a female corrections officer.

A police report was filed when the woman’s husband showed up at the prison and confronted Burdick about the alleged proposition.

"It was the end of the day. He was off the clock. He was still in the Department of Corrections uniform when the incident happened, and it was on prison property. So, for those reasons he was disciplined and for conduct unbecoming a state employee," said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Dorinda Carter.

While he was working as a corrections officer, another attack was reported at the Hickory Glade Condominiums.

Late Friday, Channel 4’s Alan Frio reported that a woman who said she was attacked said she recognized Burdick as the man who attacked her.

Burdick, according to police, is suspected of committing attacks in Davidson, Wilson and Williamson counties.
