NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A resident in Wilson County said a subdivision’s runoff is ruining her yard.
Watch This StoryLauren Curtis said that when the Jones Company finished the final phase of Hunter’s Crossing, they built a detention pond to hold its water runoff. But Curtis said the drain from the pond is ruining her yard. She said she’s spent a lot of time and energy on her landscaping, which she said was ruined because of the runoff.
"I’ll go spend lots of money on mulch to put in this back yard, lots of money on flowers. And as soon as the first rain comes, you know, it just comes down and washes all that mulch right out, right into my house," Curtis said.Curtis’ yard doesn’t look bad on a dry spring day after she’s done some repairs, but it used to look better, Channel 4’s Dennis Ferrier reported. When it rains, the water kills all of Curtis’ flowers and it drowned her 30-year-old dogwood tree.Curtis said she is also worried about the water's effect on the integrity of her house. She said she has found cracks in a bathroom floor, a weird slope in her shower and that she worries her house is sinking in mud and that the foundation is affected.A Jones Company representative said the county approved the detention pond and that it’s up to code.A Wilson County representative said Curtis should work it out with the Jones Company, but County Commissioner Larry West said somebody needs to fix the problem."At this point, I don’t care who’s responsible. I just want to solve the problem then they can go from that," he said.West has set up a meeting for Thursday between the county, the Jones Company and Curtis."So, they think that they’re just going to ignore it and probably that this little lady over here on Big Horn Drive is just going to go away and she’s going to get tired of fighting someday, and we’ll just wash her and her house away," Curtis said.A Jones Company representative said the company didn't want to comment until after Thursday's meeting.
