SEALE, Ala. -- Officials said two people were killed in a small plane crash in east Alabama after it took off from the Lebanon, Tenn. Municipal Airport.Russell County, Ala., Coroner Arthur Sumbry said the victims in Monday's crash were 63-year-old Robert W. Lloyd of Franklin and 64-year-old Hamilton Cartwright Jr. of Old Hickory.
Video: 2 Local Pilots Killed In Plane CrashThe Russell County Sheriff's department told WTVM-TV of Columbus, Ga., on Monday that a plane that dropped off radar Monday afternoon was found off Highway 431 near Phenix City, Ala.
WSMV's Catharyn Campbell reported Monday night that the two men were flying to Lakeland, Fla. for a plane show.The plane is a single engine 2006 RV-10 kit plane registered to RVN 210 HM-10 Inc. in Hermitage, Tenn.Cartwright co-owned the single-engine plane.The other owner, Michael Cottrell, flew the plane on Sunday, and his wife told Channel 4 News that the aircraft seemed to be in great shape.The Civil Air Patrol was called around 2 p.m. after the plane reportedly tried to divert to Columbus, Ga., and then tried to divert to Auburn-Opelika.Its last known radar point was near Seale in Russell County when radar and radio contact dropped off around 12:30 p.m.
