LAFAYETTE, Tenn. -- A Macon County woman was severely injured during the Feb. 5 tornadoes, and she spoke on Wednesday how faith enabled her to survive that terrible night.
Video: Storm Survivor Credits Faith For Saving HerAs the tornado was about to hit, Tammy Brawner said, she and her husband took shelter in the master bathroom of their home. The power went off and the house was shortly thereafter lifted off its foundation by the twister."We felt the house leave the ground," said Brawner.
The next thing she remembers is that she was outside behind what used to be her house. Her husband, who had also been thrown by the tornado, yelled that they needed to run because the gas pipeline across the field was shooting a fireball into the air.Brawner said she remembers running to the neighbor's house in spite of having a broken neck, a severed finger and a head full of glass."I looked at my hand and thought this is a dream," said Brawner.Brawner's father said that she and her husband were covered in blood from the injuries they suffered and asked the community to pray for her.Brawner credits those prayers with speeding her healing. She said she wants to thank everyone in the community for their help in aiding her speedy recovery."God still works miracles. It's the only reason I'm here today," said Brawner. She still has some physical rehab to do at the hospital for her injuries and plans to return to teaching at Macon County High School.
