NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- An infant nicknamed Baby Daniel has died. The Sumner County child was hospitalized, police said, after his father slammed his head into a crib.Thomas Snelling is currently charged with child abuse and neglect. The child's mother, Jeanie Tate, was not home at the time of a 911 call Snelling placed about his son in which he told a dispatcher the child had stopped breathing.Police said they didn't know at the time of the call that the toddler was hit by his father in a fit of rage because he was crying. Police said that when they confronted Snelling, he confessed.
A Sumner County grand jury will get to decide what's next for Snelling.Because the conditions of the family's home were so deplorable, Tate is also charged with child neglect, and her case was also sent to a grand jury.
