(Meredith) – A large explosion near an airport in Cairo, Egypt, Thursday evening was heard throughout the capital, according to witnesses and various reports.
Many details are still unknown, but Reuters reports security sources at the airport say the explosion happened at a building used to store fuel.
Reuters also reported that flights had been suspended while the explosion was investigated.
Mustafa Bakri, an Egyptian member of parliament, tweeted that the explosion “stopped navigation at the airport” and that the “airport will open shortly.”
The explosion, which took place just a short distance from Cairo airport and was near it, stopping the navigation at the airport according to the sources is a precautionary act, and the airport will open its doors shortly after.
