Hundreds treated for heat-related illness at Vans Warped Tour concert

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

More than 250 people have been treated for heat-related illness at the Vans Warped Tour concert at The Fairgrounds Nashville, according to the Nashville Fire Department.

Officials said about 95 percent of those treated were heat related.

At least 30 people were transported by ambulance from The Fairgrounds.

Officials have set up 16 water tents with free ice and water for those attending the concert.

The gates opened for the event at 11 a.m. There are 60 bands scheduled to perform, according to the tour’s website.

The temperature at the Nashville International Airport was 91 degrees at 1:53 p.m. with a heat index of 97 degrees.

Drivers are being warned to expect extra traffic on Tuesday around The Fairgrounds Nashville.

The Vans Warped Tour, which is expected to draw around 15,000 concertgoers, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Drivers can expect big delays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the Wedgewood Avenue exit.

Increased traffic is also expected on Fourth Avenue, Craighead Street and Nolensville Pike.

The gates for the music festival opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The road that goes through the fairgrounds will be closed to through traffic for the day. Event traffic can enter from the gates on Wedgewood Avenue and Raines Avenue. Concert traffic will exit through the gate on 4th Avenue.

Off-duty police officers and other parking staff will be on site assisting with traffic flow.
