NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Team Tennessee, a cool group of guys from Maury County, left Nashville a week ago for the U.S. Special Olympics in Seattle to compete in the flag-football competition.

The team has worked hard the past couple of months and it paid off.

They won the gold medal in the games on Thursday, returning home Saturday with a nice crowd waiting for them at the airport.

"It was crazy, amazing -- just to get it all together in six months and then come back with a  gold medal," Head Coach Christian Robinson said, looking back on all the work it took the team to get to this moment. "It was a long journey but it was so worth it."

Robinson said he's immensely proud of the team.

"It's been an amazing week. It's been a long week," he said. "The boys play hard in football. They gave it all they've got and came back with a gold medal, and it was a lot of fun."

Robinson said they are already looking forward to doing it all again in 2022 when the games are held in Orlando.

No doubt, they will certainly be there.
