A teenage girl appears to be the culprit in an attempted break-in in a Rutherford County subdivision.

The homeowners believe it was her second time at the house in one week.

Their home was burglarized just a few days earlier.

The Myers family was in Panama City Beach, FL, when they got a call from their dog sitter saying the back door had been kicked in.

“Apparently, whoever came to our house tried to get in through the windows and they couldn't so they kicked in the back door, it broke the deadbolt and they were able to get in,” said Amber Myers.

Their house was ransacked. Drawers were pulled out. Personal items and memories are strewn all over the floor and couch.

They didn't take money, jewelry or electronics but they did take a handgun.

“I lived here for 28 years and I never dreamed this would happen,” said Myers.

The Myers filed a police report, put up security cameras and returned to Florida to finish up their vacation.

While they were there, something woke Myers up.

“All of a sudden I get an alert on my phone and there is motion by our garage and I look at my phone and sure enough there is a car backed into my driveway,” said Myers.

The car pulled to the front of the house and then they see a young woman ringing the doorbell. She waits awhile, goes to the car waiting for her, the driver gets out, and they both walk to the other side of the house.

Then they sprint back to the car.

“We think they saw the camera, but we feel very confident that was a second attempt and they were coming back for round two,” said Myers.

The Myers are reaching out to neighbors telling them to keep an eye out.
