Jumping rope is a great way to exercise, no matter your age.

But if you’re 13, exercise is not why you’re doing it, the competition is.

Three girls from Franklin skipped their way to become national champions.

Hannah Walling, Grace Sparks and Anna Lapre don’t jump for fun, they jump to win, and when you do win, it winds up turning back into fun.

“We won gold medal, first place,” said Lapre.

The three girls, ages 14, 15 and 16 attend Franklin and Ensworth high schools.

“It’s super fun, a lot of hard work and long hours, but it’s super super fun,” said Lapre.

The rope must keep moving, so too must the girls.

Keep the beat, compete, watch your feet and don’t overheat.

“Kind of just going through the sequence, making sure we’re all in sync. That’s totally important,” said Lapre.

Practice, like the rope, never stops either.

The national competition was held in Wisconsin where the girls picked up their trophies.

They said, just like music, you’ve got to have rhythm and the ability to keep the beat.
