New board to take care of Nashville’s homeless

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nashville’s efforts to take care of the homeless population is now in new hands.

Metro Council approved a new homeless planning council on Tuesday.

It eliminates the Homelessness Commission to put one group in charge of every effort.

“Homeless governance is now under this one board,” said Judith Tackett, Director of the Metro Homeless Impact Division. “It’s not where do I go, to the Metro site of the federal side. It’s going to be clear and hopefully we can build up a governance structure to the point, clear and goal oriented.”

The former Homeless Commission chair said the end of the divided approach to fighting homelessness will allow for a greater community impact.
