NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Fourth of July is only two days away, and stages are going up downtown for a big celebration. A lot of minds are focused on safety.

“I've got banana peppers, sweet peppers, jalapenos, sweet relish, dill relish, onion and kraut,” said Steven Hickman, listing off hot dog toppings to a customer standing at his Delicious Dogs on Second Avenue and Broadway.

“That's a good hot dog,” said another customer, speaking through a bite of hot dog.

Hickman said he'll be right here Wednesday on what'll probably be his single busiest day of the year.

“A hot dog is definitely American, Fourth of July,” he laughed. “You're talking 250,000 plus down here. Of course, it's going to be a madhouse. It's such a mosh of people from all over. It's such a mix.”

Even with so many celebrating July 4 downtown, Hickman feels confident everyone will be safe.

Police are not allowing a number of items including weapons, coolers, backpacks and luggage. Metal detectors will be used at entry points, and as always, police are asking people to tell them if anything looks suspicious.

“Security's probably going to be number one for Nashville, I'm sure,” said Hickman.

“What brings you here? Fourth of July?” Hickman asked another customer who walked up.

He's ready for a big day, dogs are waiting.

“Bring it on, brother, bring it on,” Hickman laughed. “We'll be non-stop all night until 5 o'clock in the morning easy. It'll be a line all night long. I'm thinking I'm taking Thursday off.”
