Ground-breaking held for new Preds Ice Center

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Since the Nashville Predators began, hockey has been on the rise in Nashville.

The Predators are teaming up with the city to build a new ice skating center in Bellevue.

The rink will be built at the site of the former Bellevue Center mall and will look similar to the Ford Ice Center built at the former Hickory Hollow Mall in Antioch.

A few hundred residents, hockey fans and Predators threw a huge party at One Bellevue Place to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Preds Ice Center.

Representatives from Metro told citizens the plans for the ice center will include a community center and two ice rinks.

“In August of 2019, the Preds Ice Center right here in Bellevue will open,” said Nashville Mayor David Briley.

“We’ve been without ice for a couple years now and whey they opened Ford it was fantastic and now it’s great to get more ice,” said Shannon Gardner, a hockey mom from Franklin.

There were previously sheets of ice at the A-Game facility in Franklin, which closed last year.

“It does benefit the community and we are collecting a fair amount of revenue as part of that as well,” said Briley.

Construction on the Preds Ice Center will begin immediately and is expected to take about a year to complete.
