Etheridge to consider bringing Pink Ribbon Garden to Nashville - WSMV News 4

A Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter is in town for more than just music.

Melissa Etheridge took the stage at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Monday night.

She is also here because she’s considering opening a new Pink Ribbon Garden in Nashville.

It’s a project that helps bring healthy food to breast cancer patients and survivors who might not be able to afford it on their own.

“The food injustice with lower income is one of our biggest problems and to tell them ‘Hey, you’ve gotta eat better, you’ll survive cancer.’ That’s not fair when on a low income you can only afford very cheap processed foods.”

Etheridge partnered with Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation to open the first Pink Ribbon Garden in Orlando, FL.

Etheridge, who is a breast cancer survivor, toured The Farm in the City Community Garden downtown on Monday where she’s considering opening a second garden.

“The desire to bring healthy food back to the American people, that’s big, and we find it here in Nashville,” said Etheridge. “Nashville is a booming city that has great foods and I think it’s a great way to start serving Tennessee is through Nashville.”

It is not known when the final decision will be made.
