NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It’s frustrating when you need to go somewhere but aren’t able to drive to get there.

A nonprofit agency that helps seniors get where they need to go celebrated its 1,000th ride on Tuesday.

Senior Ride Nashville pairs older adults that no longer drive with volunteers.

“Older adults are really facing a mobility crisis in the U.S.,” said Carrie Brumfield, Senior Ride Nashville executive director.

The volunteers take them to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, to visit family or really anywhere they want to go.

“We see a lot of wonderful relationships blossom, and it goes much further than the ride often times,” said Brumfield. “Some of the older adults that we have served really didn’t have a will to live, and over a couple of weeks, their mood increases because they have made these connections with people outside of their homes.”

Senior Ride depends on its volunteers.
