NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The case of a Nashville man accused of killing a mother of six in an East Nashville parking lot last month has been bound over to a grand jury, according to a news release.

A judge decided on Thursday there was enough evidence against Kevin Wayne Newson, 33, who has been charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Jacqueline Johnson, 32, on May 4.

Authorities said Johnson was in the parking lot of Firehouse Liquors, 3049 Dickerson Pike, with three of her children and Bryant Cureton, her fiancée when an altercation took place involving Cureton and Newson.

Cureton fought back tears in court on Thursday while describing the events that led to the shots being fired.

Johnson was struck in the neck and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Newson was arrested on May 8 in Elgin, TX, and was returned to Nashville.
