HENDERSONVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Hundreds of citizens packed Hendersonville City Hall on Tuesday night angry about the condition of Drakes Creek Road.

Residents of the area said it is covered with potholes, too narrow and has already caused several wrecks.

Eddie Roberson posted signs around the area encouraging people to attend the City Council meetings to encourage the city to fix the road.

“Not only do we want it paved, but we want it enlarged so there is a shoulder, so there is enough road when large trucks, construction trucks, come so we can get off the road safely and not have wrecks,” said Roberson. “There have been some wrecks because of it.”

There are plans to build more than 1,000 homes in the area. Neighbors and council members agree the road can’t handle the development.

“I feel their pain. It’s an old expression, but I feel it because it’s one of the worst roads in town,” said Alderman Jim Waters.

The city voted to fix the road. There are a few more hoops to jump through before construction can begin, including figuring out how to pay for it.

The city has about $200,000 set aside that could go toward construction and plans to reappropriate money in the budget to cover the rest.
