NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Burger King manager risked his life to help save others on Monday night.

That’s what employees said happened last night when three gunmen burst into the Gallatin Pike North location.

“Three people came inside and he saved everybody’s life,” said Termikka Edwards, a co-worker at Burger King.

Edwards was describing the actions of Maurice Farris, 34, after the gunmen entered the restaurant at 11:33 p.m.

“He saved everybody here,” said Edwards, choking back tears. “He’s always been there if you needed someone to talk to, anything. He’s a great guy. He’s a hero.”

Police said three masked persons, at least two of them armed, entered the Burger King through the rear door. Kenneth Lamont Jernigan, 18, was in the lead.

As they came into the kitchen area, Farris tackled Jernigan. As Farris took Jernigan down, Jernigan’s two masked accomplices ran from the building. They are believed to have fled the area in a small white SUV.

Police believe Jernigan was fatally wounded as he was tackled by and struggled with Farris, who was wounded by the gunfire and is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Edwards said Farris had recently taken over as the night shift manager at the Gallatin Pike North location. He was there with four or five other when the gunmen walked in.

“He saved everybody’s life. He knocked the gunman down and he got shot and he pulled the gun on the guy and just giving everybody else time to get out,” said Edwards.

“It could have been me. It could have been any of us, but he didn’t deserve this.”
