MANCHESTER, TN (WSMV) -

An industrial building under construction went up in flames just a mile from the Bonnaroo Music Festival on Wednesday.

The fire was at Kirchhoff Automotive in the Manchester Industrial Park just south of the festival grounds.

A thick black smoke shot hundreds of feet in the air at the building. The fire was reported around 5 p.m. and was under control by 7:30 p.m.

Officials said the fire started in a storage area next to the building where plastics and propane tanks were stored.

The company makes car parts.

Crews were able to put out the fire before it did too much damage.

Manchester Vice Mayor Ryan French said, all things considered, it could have been a lot worse.

“If the building, the structure itself would have caught on fire, we’re talking about multi-million of dollars in losses and right now it seems to be contained and hopefully all these folks will have a job and can return pretty soon,” said French.

French said he was on the Bonnaroo grounds when he got the call about the fair and said no one was affected.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Company officials said full-time employees on the third shift are expected to return to work on Thursday night. Randstad employees will be notified if they are expected to report. All first shift employees, including office personnel and Randstad employees, are expected at the start of their regular shifts on Friday.
