DICKSON, TN (WSMV) -

A Dickson County deputy killed in the line of duty was laid to rest Tuesday.

Family and friends said goodbye to Sgt. Daniel Baker, 32, a week after he was shot and killed while responding to a call.

Hundreds of people sat inside First Baptist Church and a thousand more watched the service streamed on Facebook. The church wanted people around Tennessee to be a part of his tribute. Baker’s friends said he loved to fish, and they shared with us some of the most memorable moments.

“He loved me, and I loved him. He’d come to my deer hunting camp in his squad car and blow his horn and wake me up in my camper and I’d jump through my hide and it’d have to be Baker out there. Gotcha!” said friend Jeff Dobbs. “He is buried next to my son. (It’s) a hop, skip and a jump just right there. My son’s buried right there, and he knew my son.”

A patrol car was set up with in front of the church with balloons, flowers and notes left behind for Baker and his family.

“He was just a happy go lucky guy. He always had a smile. He genuinely cared, and I think that’s what set him apart from a lot of people,” said friend Janice Sadler.

At the end of the service, the pastor said Baker’s time with his wife and young daughter were short but full.
