DICKSON, TN (WSMV) -

A friend who called Dickson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Baker his role model said he would do anything to make people smile.

“He’s hilarious, smart, just could carry on a conversation about anything. Tells you funny stories all the time,” said Dalton Stinson, Baker’s friend.

Stinson worked at Magic Wheels Skating Rink in Dickson where Baker also provided security almost every weekend for nearly two years.

“He used to play games with us with the kids. He loved it. One time I even got him to skate. He did one lap and was like I’m done,” Stinson said.

The skating rink was one of at least three jobs Baker worked weekly to provide for his wife and 1-year-old daughter. He also worked as a security guard at the Renaissance Center and as a sergeant for the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office.

Stinson and Baker bonded over their passion for serving.

“He said well, if you’re seriously about joining the service, I’ll come to your graduation. He cared about everything,” said Stinson holding back tears. “When I heard about that yesterday it just broke my heart because I looked up to him all the time.”

Stinson would like to follow in his friend’s footsteps - serve in the military and then become a police officer.
