NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a murder at a Murfreesboro Pike motel, according to Metro Police.

Police said Gerold Askew, 52, was arrested on Friday afternoon for his alleged role in the beating death of Alfred Jenkins, 54, who died this week at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being assaulted on May 2 near the intersection of Lincoln and Lafayette streets.

Derrick Asbury, 50, is also charged with criminal homicide for Jenkins’ beating death. He was arrested on Wednesday.

Police said Askew, Asbury and Jenkins were together on the morning of May 2 when Jenkins and Askew got into a fight.

Asbury became involved and told detectives that he struck Jenkins on the head and body with a stick. Askew is reported to have kicked Jenkins while he was down.
