NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A somber gathering was held at Tennessee State University on Tuesday night.

The families of the victims in the mass shooting at Waffle House met with James Shaw Jr., who is credited with disarming the accused gunman.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Shaw set up a GoFundMe account for the victims' families.

On Tuesday night, Shaw presented the families with a check for $241,000.

The eight families, all representing the victims who were killed or injured, released balloons in honor of the four people who were killed.

TSU has set up a scholarship in Shaw’s name. Donations to the James Shaw Jr. Scholarship Fund can be made at this link or by mail the address below.
