Man killed in fiery crash on S.R. 55 in Moore County

Posted: Updated:

A 70-year-old man died in a fiery crash between Lynchburg and Tullahoma on Saturday.

It happened just before 10 a.m. on State Route 55 near Hilltop Circle in Moore County.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a Dodge pickup truck was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and struck the left side of a Ford Fusion going in the opposite direction. The Ford went off the road and into a ditch.

The pickup then hit a Chevrolet pickup truck head-on, causing it to go off the road and burst into flames. The driver of that truck, 70-year-old John Wilburn, of Lynchburg, Tennessee, was killed.

The driver of the other two other vehicles were injured, while a juvenile in the Ford Fusion was not hurt.

Both directions of S.R. 55 were closed while officials investigated the crash, but it reopened by 3 p.m.

No charges have been filed.
