NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The man accused of fatally shooting another man inside the Opry Mills mall last week will be facing a grand jury.

Justin Golson, 22, is charged with second-degree homicide in connection with the shooting.

During a hearing on Thursday, testimony revealed that Golson and the victim, Demarco Churchwell, knew one another and that the violence appears to have stemmed from a social media feud.

According to a detective who testified on Thursday, Golson claimed to police that Churchwell was threatening him on Instagram and Snapchat.

Golson allegedly told the detective that after he saw Churchwell, he left his work at a kiosk in the mall, grabbed a gun from his apartment and returned to the mall.

Before the judge bound over the case to the grand jury on Thursday, Golson's defense attorney argued the homicide charge should be thrown out because he acted in self-defense.

News4 spoke with a woman who was called to testify about a gun that was stolen from her weeks ago. She was told it matches the gun used in the shooting.

"It broke my heart. My father was murdered years ago and that's the reason I tried to learn how to use a gun," Janet Montgomery said. "I had to learn how to protect myself, and I just probably will never use that gun again if I do get it back."

Churchwell's girlfriend, Alexandria Lavender, is also being charged with theft after two stolen guns were allegedly found in her purse while she was at the mall. Lavender reportedly told detectives she didn't know how they got there. Her case was also bound over to the grand jury.
