NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro Council member is calling on city leaders to take action after a series of photos showing recent bike lane blockages all over Nashville surfaced on Twitter Wednesday.

Angie Henderson shared the Twitter thread from an account called “Nashville Bike” and tweeted at city leaders “What’s the plan for Demonbreun? Can we get an action plan/report on this in Public Works committee, please?”

Demonbreun Hill near downtown Nashville has a bike lane which is often blocked by parked cars.

“Some of the biggest concerns are with the Uber drivers and Lyft drivers,” said cyclist Robert Taylor. “Parking in bike lanes is unsafe and it’s not right.”

News4 went to Demonbreun Hill and found numerous ride sharing and food delivery cars parked in the bike lane outside of the bars and restaurants.

Some of the drivers left their vehicles unattended for several minutes.

“They’re either unaware of the law or they’re ignoring it,” Taylor said. “I don’t think without some education and some enforcement that you’re going to make any progress.”
