NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Nashville Fire Department has a new crime-fighting tool.

Spencer is an arson dog that can sniff out accelerants used to start fires at the drop of a hat.

The fire department set up several cans with fire debris.

Spencer was able to point out which one has accelerant inside.

“This is the only crime that I know of that you lose the evidence of the crime, so from a prosecutor’s perspective, that’s what makes these cases so incredibly hard,” said A.C. Agee, an assistant district attorney in Davidson County. “Him being able to come to the scene initially and say yes there is accelerant here lets us know we need to monitor what’s going on. Spencer is huge in helping us do that.”
