Jack White is banning cell phones from his concerts

Posted: Updated:

Rock musician Jack White wants to get rid of cell phones at his concerts. Concertgoers will have to lock their phone in a special magnetic pouch that remains locked during the show. If there's an emergency, you can unlock the pouch by taking it to a designated area -- the lobby.

The idea is to force the audience to have a more authentic, human experience free of distractions like Instagram and Snapchat.

White said in a statement,

“No photos, video or audio recording devices allowed. We think you’ll enjoy looking up from your gadgets for a little while and experience music and our shared love of it IN PERSON.”

For the people who can't imagine going to a concert and not posting a photo about it -- rest assured, photos will be provided. There will be an official tour photographer who will make photos and videos of the show available for posting. You just have to wait until the show's over.

White isn't the first musician to try going phone-free. These special pouches, called Yondr pouches, have been used by Beyonce and Bruno Mars to create a concert experience free of smartphone distractions.
