FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

The Williamson County Health Department is issuing a warning about a new phone scam.

So far, the department has received several reports of people getting calls asking for their health insurance information.

The calls appear on caller ID to come from the health department, which makes the scam even more deceiving.

Officials say they would never contact residents by phone to request personal information.

Patients may be asked for the insurance carrier's name when they make appointments, but they would not be asked for their policy numbers or details.

Law enforcement has been notified of the scam.
