MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Tiny homes have become a bit of a craze across the country, and one group is building small communities of them for homeless veterans in Tennessee.

A Home 4 Hero's is a national non-profit that helps builds homes, mortgage-free to veterans and their families.

According to the group, over 7,500 veterans are homeless in TN.

That's why they're working to build tiny home communities of 15 to 18 homes in every county across the state.

Willie Franklin says being involved in the organization is the most important thing he's ever done.

"We've had veterans come to us, and within a matter of months they have their own home, own car, have a job, get their kids back and begin a normal life again," said Franklin. "It's just a matter of reaching out and helping."

Franklin says the biggest obstacle is finding the funds to build these tiny homes.

"A veteran doesn't deserve to be homeless," he explains, "but we still have this issue and it needs to be addressed."

Tommorrow night in Murfreesboro, a singing competition will be held to raise money for the non-profit.

It's $10 to attend and $25 to compete. All proceeds from the event will go to the organization.
