NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Country music star Vince Gill shared a story about former Today Show host Matt Lauer on the radio with News 4’s Joe Dubin Friday morning.

On the Greg Pogue and Big Joe Show on WSNR, Gill shared the story about a time he, his daughter Jenny, and wife Amy Grant were performing on the show.

“And so the rehearsal’s going on and Matt Lauer is catching eyes with the beautiful background singer, and he comes up to me and goes, ‘Hey, are those real?’ And I turned to him and said, ‘I hope so, it’s my daughter,’” Gill said.

Gill said he took Lauer’s comment as a joke.

“Did you? I would have taken it with a right hand across his face,” Dubin said.

“He tells that story on himself,” Gill replied.

Lauer was fired earlier this week following complaints of sexual misconduct.
