Stolen car chase in Madison leads to 5 arrests

Posted: Updated:

Metro Police have arrested 4 juveniles and an 18-year-old after they crashed into two police cruisers with a stolen car and led officers on a chase from the Madison area into downtown Nashville.

According to police, Madison officers discovered a red Toyota Camry, which had been stolen from Edgehill Avenue on Nov. 22, in the parking lot of Charter Village Apartments with several people inside.

Officers Jordan Lowery and Harold Wilmore drove up to the car, staggering their cruisers with blue lights activated to prevent the car from exiting the complex.

The driver, a 16-year old, decided to flee, driving the Camry between the narrow gap between the police cars and striking both in the process.

Officer Camry, who saw the Camry driving toward him, fired his duty pistol twice in self-defense, but no one was struck by the rounds.

Lowery is now on routine administrative assignment while an investigation into the discharge of his weapon is investigated by the department.

During the resulting car chase, the 16-year-old driver pulled into the parking lot of AutoZone on Gallatin Pike North, and one of the occupants tossed a .40-caliber pistol from the vehicle. Police later checked the gun and discovered it was also stolen.

Officers were joined by a police helicopter that followed the stolen car as it traveled on the interstate to 3rd Avenue South where it stopped abruptly and all occupants fled on foot.

All five occupants, four males and one female, were arrested after a foot chase.

Officers also recovered another pistol in the back seat of the Camry. It was stolen from the glovebox of an unlocked car on Windcrest Trail in Antioch on Sept. 14.

The 16-year-old driver is charged in Juvenile Court with aggravated assault on a police officer for striking the two police cars, as well as unlawful gun possession, vehicle theft, and evading arrest.

The other teens in the car, two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old, were also charged with unlawful gun possession, vehicle theft and evading arrest in Juvenile Court.

The one non-minor arrested, 18-year-old Ronald Adkins, was charged with unlawful gun possession, vehicle theft, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and evading arrested.

All five suspects are now under investigation for robbery and other crimes.
