NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The man accused of brutally murdering two young women in a case that sat unsolved for nearly two decades is expected to be released from jail soon.

On Wednesday, the judge decreased Patrick Streater’s bond from $750,000 to $25,000, which was an agreement between the state and defense.

Streater’s mother told News 4 she would be posting his bond right after the hearing. Jail officials confirmed Streater's bond was posted on Wednesday.

During Wednesday's hearing, prosecutors revealed they have new evidence that is undergoing testing and need to push back his trial date, which was originally set to begin Jan. 8.

Streater is accused of fatally stabbing Tiffany Campbell and Melissa Chilton inside a Nashville tanning salon in 1996. The case sat unsolved until 2013 when he was charged with their deaths.

Streater’s mother said she is ecstatic to have her son home for the first time in years.

"We’re just grateful. It’s the happiest day we’ve had in years, so we’re just overwhelmed and truly blessed that this day has come," said Patrycia Streater.

Chilton's mother said she hopes Streater uses this time to make better decisions.

"I want to wish Patrick Streater the best. He has been graced by God today to be let out. He has the opportunity to turn his life around. He can leave here and go to church and get on his knees and thank God," said Gail Chilton.

Streater will be back in court for a hearing on Jan. 5. A new trial date has not yet been set.

Streater will be undergoing electronic monitoring until his next hearing.
