NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It's official: Nashville is one of four cities still in consideration to become part of the Major League Soccer expansion.

In the end, only two of these cities will be chosen to earn professional soccer teams.

Nashville, Cincinnati, Detroit and Sacramento will all make formal presentations to MLS Commissioner Don Garber and the Expansion Committee on Dec. 6.

The following people will represent the city of Nashville during the presentation:

  • John Ingram – Chairman of Ingram Industries Inc. and CEO Nashville Soccer Holdings
  • Wilf Family – owners of the Minnesota Vikings
  • Turner Family – Managing Partners of MarketStreet Enterprises

After the presentations, the MLS Board of Governors will meet for additional discussions on Dec. 14.

Ingram, the lead investor for MLS2Nashville, issued this statement:

We are excited to be headed back to New York for this next opportunity to strengthen the case that Nashville belongs in the first expansion round. From soccer fans to elected leaders, Nashville has demonstrated an unprecedented level of enthusiasm for bringing MLS to the city.

Garber issued this statement about the announcement:

The leaders of the Cincinnati, Detroit, Nashville and Sacramento MLS expansion ownership groups have bold visions and innovative plans for their clubs, stadiums and their involvement in their respective communities. We are pleased these highly-respected business and sports leaders have been so determined to bring Major League Soccer to their cities. We have been greatly encouraged by the progress that all four of these groups have made and we are looking forward to their presentations.

Twelve cities submitted formal bids in January for the expansion slots.

Two more expansion teams will be announced at a later date. The cities under consideration for those slots include Charlotte, Indianapolis, Phoenix, Raleigh/Durham, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Diego and Tampa/St. Petersburg.
