NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Mayor Megan Barry said she would like to see more pedestrian- and bike-friendly connectors like the one that just opened on Division Street.

The ribbon was officially cut on the Division Street extension bridge on Tuesday. The extension runs from 8th Avenue South to 2nd Avenue South and helps connect parts of downtown Nashville.

The bridge has buffered lanes to separate pedestrians and cyclists from cars. It also has landscaping to help filter storm water runoff and LED lighting to save electricity.

“This is about connecting, it’s about connecting our neighborhoods. And it’s about access for transit, different kinds of transit, making sure it’s a complete street,” Barry said.

The bridge also features a pedestrian plaza and wide sidewalks.

The half-mile project cost about $25 million.
