Unexpected Friendsgiving comes together in Murfreesboro

Posted: Updated:

A Murfreesboro woman hosted an unexpected Friendsgiving celebration after her number accidentally got added to a group text.

Kelly Ford said she was added to a group message but did not know any of the people in the text.

Ford played along, telling the high schoolers she would bring garlic grits casserole and that they could all come to her house.

Ford explained her phone number is apparently very similar to one of the friends who the invitation was originally intended for. However, she still extended her own invitation to host a Friendsgiving for the group of Hillwood High School students at her house.

On Sunday, more than two dozen showed up.

“It was a bunch of hugs, and a lot of oh my gosh, I can't believe this is actually happening,” said Ford.

Ford wants these teens to remember that everything happens for a reason.

“When something unexpected happens, embrace it,” said Ford. “Be willing to be kind, be nice to people, that's what we need more of in the world is to be nice."

Ford says right now the plan is to host another Friendsgiving with the same group of teens next year. She said she hopes this will become a yearly tradition.
